Hayden's Party - The Messy Airport Version

I can't seem to get wee text boxes under my photos so, for now ... I hope this will do:

1. Pre-party: she really wanted the tiara behind the counter

2. But this is what she got instead.

3. And then we all had to pose. There were several HUGE bunny balloons that unnerved me. We do not currently have a good photo of the three of us with those bunnies. I'm sorry.

4. And then an MC with a spitting microphone and a drum roll demanded that Hayden choose SOMETHING from a platter of goodies to give us a hint as to what her future might be like. Her options were: a pencil (representing scholarship (not the money kind), money (the money kind), microphone (a musician), or string (a long life). She looked nonplussed, thought about it, surveyed the loot, touched the microphone and then blithely selected the pencil. So we hope this means she'll sing (or play drums!) in a band while studying diligently. She can be a rock star with a PhD, and we won't mind a bit.

5. And then we clapped our hands a lot. Hayden still wanted the tiara. She wept.

There was much eating and drinking and smashing of soju cups.

And that's about it! Hayden's first birthday party was a smashing (!) success because we SURVIVED and because she only cried once and because all our friends had a nice time and because the bunnies did. not. win.

400 days into motherhood and Ms. Hayden Violet is still the love of my life. May she never break my heart.

We'll be in Canada for the next few months so my next blog post will ... be from there. Yeah.

I'm thinking about upgrading my account with switchpod, but before I do that I'd like to know how many people actually download the songs I put up. As it stands right now, I upload the files and then delete them after a month or two to make room for newer songs. With the new upgrade, I would not delete those songs. So, here's a poll for you. I'm writing my thesis on humour and laughter - although gender issues in the classroom is/are something I'm also profoundly interested in - and I'm frequently accused of being humourless - so I totally understand why some of you might not have known/guessed that. Tricky, I know, I know. All the others were dressed up to sound cute or witty but are all essentially true. Just let me know if you'd like a 4-leaf clover and I'll send you one.

We're still waiting on photos from Hayden's (t)dol (apparently it has taken them 3 weeks to airbrush the pained expression off my face) but I WILL publish pics when they become available. Hayden's cute, she's real cute!

All that, and more, as soon as I get my final exams done and graded and my paper finished. I promise.

But for now: Hayden finally understands a telephone and she LOVES it. She steals our mobile phones and randomly presses numbers while saying "hi?" "hi?" "hi?" "hi?". It's adorable. It's wonderful. It's scary. She actually called 911 (or 119 here in Korea) a few times because it's programmed into my phone as an emergency function. Oopps. Sorry.

I'll get a video clip of her gabbing on the phone eventually but for now - the world's cutest fusion baby walks across a room!!! Applause, please ...
